Outspoken Honesty is Needed Chance Taking

Taking chances is how I spent my radio career. Sometimes it paid off, sometimes it didn’t. I like the saying...

“The bigger the chance, the bigger the reward, or bigger the failure.”

If you take big chances you'll understand “Live by the sword, die by the sword" isn't just a saying, it’s a way of life.

Just the phrase “Taking chances” is polarizing though. Using it in a sentence could make a person seem like a genius or an asshole. Example...

Genius: Bill Gates took a chance by creating Microsoft.

Asshole: Bernie Madoff took a chance by stealing.

In my past profession, the biggest chance you take as a radio talent is being honest when you speak. I’ve gone head to head with upper management many times, because they hated my honesty and seemed scared because of how I look at life. On, and off air. Sometimes the corporate world doesn't want to hear the truth because they need you as a scapegoat when things they know won't work out, don't work out. Once you say it out loud, you can throw it in their face when it blows up in theirs.

You take a chance being honest and outspoken. With that said, you’re not a victim if it doesn’t go your way. If you act as if you are, your honesty shouldn’t be respected.

I can’t stand those who take a chance with honesty and then bitch when they’re crucified. SUCK IT UP! You had the balls to be honest, now have the balls to live with your honesty and inspire others to take chances being honest, without scaring them to believe they’ll become victims or made examples of.

Embrace your fate. Good or bad. You were honest and nothing negative can come from that. Unless you allow it, or don’t know how to deal with it.

Taking chances isn’t for everyone. The same goes for being outspoken with your honesty. It’s for a select few that help maintain the balance of life. Although I know my life would be less chaotic if I didn’t take chances, nor say or do things others don’t agree with, it’s not the way I want to live.

I can honestly say, verbalizing my honesty is a chance I’ll take to stay intact.
